Tongue Port Bits

The purpose of a tongue port bit is to reduce pressure on the center of the tongue, with more space. This design puts pressure to the bars and corners of the mouth. A tongue port bit can indeed be more comfortable for a horse that needs additional space for its tongue, but not necessarily for a horse that is sensitive in the bar area.

Tongue port bits come in various shapes, more or less pronounced depending on the model. It is important to select the shape of the tongue port based on your horse's mouth conformation. Otherwise, a tongue-relief bit may not provide the intended comfort.

The thickness of your bit's mouthpiece depends on the space available in your horse's mouth. If he doesn't have much space, it's best to choose a thin mouthpiece. Conversely, if he has more space, opt for a thicker mouthpiece. Standard mouthpiece sizes are 14 and 16 mm. 

Mouthpiece size depends on your horse's mouth. If in doubt, we advise you to measure your usual bit (between the 2 rings), or use a tool to measure your horse's mouth. 

If you find yourself between 2 sizes, it's best to opt for the larger size, even if it means using bit guards to make up the difference. If the bit is too tight, your horse may hurt. If your bit is too big, it will be unstable in the mouth and this can also injure your horse.

The bit should be rinsed with water after each use to remove saliva and residues. Don't forget to dry it with a towel. If impurities are difficult to remove, you can use a small cleaning brush. Never use a metallic brush, however, as the bristles may scratch the bit, making it uneven and sharp.

No manufacturer provides a warranty against bites. Rubber is a fragile material, and unfortunately, even if the bit is damaged on the first use, no warranty is applicable.
