Single jointed mouthpiece bits

This depends on your horse's mouth conformation; some horses will find a single-jointed bit more comfortable, while others may not. Each horse has a unique mouth structure, so it's important to stay attuned to your partner to find the bit that provides the most comfort.

For many years, the nutcracker effect has been a topic of discussion. This effect is envisioned as follows: the single joint can press up against the horse's palate when the bit moves upward. However, this action is generally caused only by downward rein pressure. For instance, if you're on the ground holding your horse, and the horse suddenly lifts its head, this movement might cause pressure on the palate, leading to the so-called nutcracker effect. While riding, however, it is difficult to recreate this same effect.

The thickness of your bit's mouthpiece depends on the space available in your horse's mouth. If he doesn't have much space, it's best to choose a thin mouthpiece. Conversely, if he has more space, opt for a thicker mouthpiece. Standard mouthpiece sizes are 14 and 16 mm. 

Mouthpiece size depends on your horse's mouth. If in doubt, we advise you to measure your usual bit (between the 2 rings), or use a tool to measure your horse's mouth. 

If you find yourself between 2 sizes, it's best to opt for the larger size, even if it means using bit guards to make up the difference. If the bit is too tight, your horse may hurt. If your bit is too big, it will be unstable in the mouth and this can also injure your horse.

The bit should be rinsed with water after each use to remove saliva and residues. Don't forget to dry it with a towel. If impurities are difficult to remove, you can use a small cleaning brush. Never use a metallic brush, however, as the bristles may scratch the bit, making it uneven and sharp.
