Bits

The bit is a piece of tack, usually metal, inserted into the horse's mouth. Together with the snaffle or bridle and fitted with reins, it allows a rider to control the speed and direction of his horse. There are many models with different alloys and actions, adaptable to each couple.

Do you know the funnel approach ? That's how we usually work to determine the most suitable bit. You need to be attentive to the various signals your horse might emit, which could help determine his sensitivities. Does he shake his head? Does he rest on his bit? We explain everything in our Advice section.

We only consider bit buy-back offers in exchange for purchase vouchers for bits in good condition. Our proposal takes into account our stock of used bits and the bit concerned. For reasons of hygiene, we do not buy leather or textile bits. The value is always lower than what you could resell the bit for yourself, but has the advantage of being immadiate and with no resale conditions.

The bit is a communication tool. When this communication deteriorates and/or your horse shows signs of discomfort in his contact with the hand, or even in his overall locomotion, it may be appropriate to question your equipment. The horse's growth, its sporting evolution, its discipline and the change of rider are just some of the factors that can lead to the need to adapt the bit.

All our bits, with the exception of leather or fabric bits, are eligible for rental. Rental is also available on used bits. Find our rental rates, here.

To find out your horse's bit size, use a tape measure. Measure only the length of the barrel, without the rings. For bits with loose rings, it's advisable to leave a margin of 0.5 to 1 cm on each side of your horse's mouth to avoid pinching at the corners.
