Breastplate

The Breastplate is designed to stabilise the saddle and prevent it from sliding backwards during work, particularly when jumping, cross-country riding or hacking. More enveloping than a breast collars, it generally features multiple attachment points (to the saddle and girth), providing enhanced stability and improved distribution of pressure across the horse’s chest. If saddle stabilisation is not required and the goal is only to regulate head carriage, a martingale may be a suitable solution.

Unlike the simpler and more streamlined breast collars, the breast collar offers more structured support, particularly appreciated for powerful, round horses or those with low withers.

The breast collar can be used with or without a martingale attachment. The martingale fork acts on the reins to limit excessive upward movement of the neck and help stabilise the contact. It is particularly useful for horses that tend to raise their head abruptly or open the head–neck angle excessively. Many models allow the forks to be easily interchanged, making it possible to adjust the level of action depending on the day’s work or the horse’s profile.
