Its straight mouthpiece with a pronounced tongue port provides generous tongue relief and transfers more of the action onto the bars and corners of the mouth. This pressure distribution encourages tongue mobility and can help sensitive horses relax into the contact.

The Beris synthetic mouthpiece has a particularly smooth and soft surface. It is available in two levels of flexibility: Soft for sensitive horses that need confidence to settle into the contact, and Hard for horses that tend to lean more heavily on the bit.

The Pelham cheeks create leverage, acting notably on the poll and providing a more pronounced action when greater control or flexion is required. The intensity depends on the length of the cheeks, the adjustment of the curb chain and the rein position.
