Description

Weymouth bit: Small or large cheeks. If the bit is with slide cheek it will have a more relaxing action. The tongue's way is sticking out to avoid any pinching. The Lhotte Weymouth bit is fixed and is the most classic of them all. The port gives a great comfort to the horse, it leaves room for the bradoon bit and for the horse's tongue. The Weymouth bit action depends on the mouthpiece but also and most of all, on the size of the shanks. The longer the shanks the more action it will have. This weymouth bits are only used combined with a bradoon bit and so on a double bridle or with a double bridle bit connectors that can be added to any bridle. The small shanks allows you to have less leverage and a more direct contact. It is usually prefered for horses that have tendency to lock their chin into their chest. We can also see this bit in the Jumper show ring on a double bridle.
