Our expert's opinion
The Trust straight bar leather eggbutt gag bit provides consistent and symmetrical contact. It helps the horse establish a steady connection with the bit and is particularly suitable for horses that struggle to accept the contact with jointed bits.
The straight mouthpiece applies direct pressure to the tongue and bars while relieving pressure on the palate. Its straight design ensures even contact on both sides of the mouth, allowing symmetrical communication between the rider's hands and the horse's mouth while eliminating the risk of pinching the tongue.
These features help the horse develop confidence in the bit, encouraging it to accept the contact and stretch into the reins. This makes it an ideal choice for young horses.
Leather is a natural material that is particularly comfortable for the horse, encouraging chewing and salivation. The flexible mouthpiece encourages the horse to stretch into the contact and engage its hindquarters underneath its body.
The eggbutt rings help protect the corners of the horse's mouth from pinching thanks to their fixed design. They provide direct communication between the rider's hands and the horse's mouth, making this bit particularly useful for encouraging the horse to establish a steady contact.
The gag bit helps encourage collection, improving and maintaining the horse's balance. It encourages the horse to lift its withers and engage its hindquarters underneath its body.
This bit features special cheekpieces that pass through two additional rings positioned perpendicular to the main bit rings. This design allows it to be used with two or four reins, or with gag bit converters.
When used with four reins, the reins attached directly to the bit rings provide a traditional lifting action, while those attached to the sliding gag cheekpieces can produce a lowering effect on the horse's head and neck.
The gag bit can help improve the horse's balance by encouraging the horse to bring its nose closer to the rider.
Material
Leather : Almost every horse like the feeling of leather in its mouth and reacts with increased chewing activity and more salivation. The more salivation, the better slides the bit in the mouth what means an increased well being of your horse. The anatomical shape of the mouthpiece adjusts when wet even more perfect to the anatomy of the horse's mouth. Extremely well suited is our leather mouthpiece for young and highly sensitive horses, disliking all other materials. This mouthpiece are tanned vegetable and stitched by hand.
Tips : Prior to the first use please soak the mouthpiece thoroughly in cooking oil. Please repeat since the leather seems dry to you. Prior to every use please soak briefly in cold water and rinse after use because saliva can erode the leather quickly. Leather is a vulnerable material, we strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
Caution : This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear and tear due to biting. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
