Our expert's opinion
The medium port gag bit offers numerous benefits thanks to its sweet iron material and the shape of its mouthpiece. It provides comfort for horses with sensitive mouths that struggle to stretch into the contact.
The anatomical design of the bit provides maximum room for the tongue, while the medium port allows optimal pressure distribution across the bars, tongue and corners of the mouth.
Its straight mouthpiece ensures symmetrical contact on both sides of the mouth, allowing even communication between the rider's hands and the horse's mouth while eliminating the risk of pinching the tongue.
These features help the horse develop confidence in the bit, encouraging it to accept a steady contact without becoming heavy in the hand. Its sweet iron material encourages chewing and salivation, promoting relaxation and acceptance of the bit.
The gag bit helps encourage collection, improving and maintaining the horse's balance. It encourages the horse to lift its withers and engage its hindquarters underneath its body.
This bit features special cheekpieces that pass through two additional rings positioned perpendicular to the main bit rings. This design allows it to be used with two or four reins, or with gag bit converters.
When used with four reins, the reins attached directly to the bit rings provide a traditional lifting action, while those attached to the sliding gag cheekpieces can produce a lowering effect on the horse's head and neck.
The gag bit can help improve the horse's balance by encouraging the horse to bring its nose closer to the rider.
Material
Sweet iron : Sweet iron alloy oxidizes when in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste which naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Consequently, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to get in touch with its mouthpiece. The oxydation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
