Sweet Iron eggbutt gag Dr Bristol - Trust

Our expert's opinion

The Trust DR Bristol double-jointed eggbutt gag bit helps horses maintain better concentration during training. It provides good freedom of movement in the horse's mouth.

Its sweet iron material encourages chewing and salivation, promoting relaxation and acceptance of the bit. The copper elements further stimulate salivation and encourage the horse to relax its jaw.

This bit is particularly suitable for horses that struggle to maintain their concentration throughout a training session. Its design also allows for more precise rein aids while helping to protect the corners of the horse's mouth.

The gag bit helps encourage collection, improving and maintaining the horse's balance. It encourages the horse to lift its withers and engage its hindquarters underneath its body.

This bit features special cheekpieces that pass through two additional rings positioned perpendicular to the main bit rings. This design allows it to be used with two or four reins, or with gag bit converters.

When used with four reins, the reins attached directly to the bit rings provide a traditional lifting action, while those attached to the sliding gag cheekpieces can produce a lowering effect on the horse's head and neck.

The gag bit can help improve the horse's balance by encouraging the horse to bring its nose closer to the rider.
