Sweet Iron eggbutt gag locked- Trust

Our expert's opinion

The Trust sweet iron locking single-jointed bit is a hybrid bit. Its sweet iron material provides a gentle action that encourages relaxation, while the locking mechanism delivers a more direct and precise response when contact is taken.

The locking mechanism eliminates the risk of pinching the tongue and reduces interference with the palate. The slim joint and thickness of the mouthpiece make this bit relatively comfortable for the horse.

When the mouthpiece locks, it encourages the horse to maintain a light contact. This bit is particularly useful for achieving a soft, consistent connection while encouraging the horse to carry itself and engage its hindquarters.

The gag bit helps encourage collection, improving and maintaining the horse's balance. It encourages the horse to lift its withers and engage its hindquarters underneath its body.

This bit features special cheekpieces that pass through two additional rings positioned perpendicular to the main bit rings. This design allows it to be used with two or four reins, or with gag bit converters.

When used with four reins, the reins attached directly to the bit rings provide a traditional lifting action, while those attached to the sliding gag cheekpieces can produce a lowering effect on the horse's head and neck.

The gag bit can help improve the horse's balance by encouraging the horse to bring its nose closer to the rider.
