John Sweet Iron Pelham - Fager

The Fager John Pelham is designed for horses that become strong while still needing to seek a steadier and more consistent contact. It is also suitable for sensitive horses that tend to chew on the bit or throw their head.

Its double-jointed mouthpiece with bar relief distributes pressure evenly and naturally follows the shape of the tongue. The specially designed joints reduce tongue pressure to provide a softer, more comfortable and consistent contact.

The Sweet Iron coating gradually develops a sweet taste through oxidation, encouraging the horse to accept the bit more willingly and maintain a softer, steadier connection.

The longer Pelham shanks create more leverage than a Baby Pelham, providing increased control and stability while encouraging the horse to lower and soften its frame. It can be ridden with two reins or Pelham roundings to fine-tune the amount of leverage applied.

Depending on the horse's mouth conformation, particularly if it is wide around the premolars, choosing one size larger may provide a better fit due to the upper shanks.

Sweet Iron is a coating applied over a stainless steel core that naturally oxidises to a brownish-grey colour when exposed to moisture and saliva. This oxidation creates a slightly sweet taste that encourages salivation, relaxation and improved acceptance of the bit.
