Our expert's opinion
The Dee rings keep the bit stable in the mouth, improve lateral guidance and provide more precise steering. The barrel-locking mouthpiece delivers a stable feel without the stiffness of a traditional straight bar while relieving pressure on the bars. The Sweet Iron coating promotes salivation and encourages the horse to confidently seek the contact, resulting in a comfortable, precise bit that is especially suited to horses with an inconsistent connection.
Description
The Fager Niklas Dee Ring Bit is designed for horses that struggle with an inconsistent contact, throw their head or constantly chew the bit. It is particularly suited to horses that become stiff in a traditional straight bit but feel worried or unstable in a jointed mouthpiece.
Its barrel-locking mouthpiece offers a unique action by locking quickly when rein pressure is applied while providing relief for the bars. This creates a stable feeling without the rigidity of a conventional straight bar, encouraging the horse to confidently seek a steadier contact.
The Sweet Iron coating gradually develops a pleasant sweet taste through natural oxidation, promoting salivation and improving bit acceptance. The mouthpiece shape also helps protect worn premolars while remaining exceptionally gentle on the bars.
The Dee rings keep the bit centered in the mouth and prevent unwanted lateral movement. Their straight sides improve steering accuracy and provide a secure, consistent contact for both horse and rider.
Combined with the relatively thin mouthpiece and quick-locking action, the aids remain clear and precise while maintaining excellent stability for horses seeking a more confident connection.
Material
Sweet Iron is a coating applied over a stainless steel core. When exposed to moisture, it naturally oxidises to a brownish-grey finish while developing a slightly sweet taste that encourages salivation and helps the horse seek a steadier, more confident contact with the bit.
