Our expert's opinion

The Verbindend greatly clarifies and emphasises the signals through the rein.  Promoting self-carriage and throughness, a true outline and freedom through the shoulder can be developed with this bit. The Verbindend has consistently helped eradicate tongue evasions, encouraging the horse to soften and relax through the jaw. The cleverly curved mouthpiece can also enhance the development of the bend for lateral work and smaller circles.

The Eggbutt cheekpiece supports and stabilises the mouthpiece. It is highly recommended for horses that intermittently ‘drop' the contact. Also proves beneficial for horses with sensitive lips prone to rubbing.

Popular for dressage where extra lift is needed and also in the show ring both in hand and under saddle.

Material

Salox Gold: This alloy has a high thermal conductivity. This means that the bit quickly warms up to mouth temperature and becomes neutral for the horse, meaning that it is less likely to settle on the mouthpiece and will instead be receptive to all the rider's aids. Occasionally, the horse's bit may come into contact with teeth, notably incisors (when we put the bit in place) and premolars. In such cases, we must ensure that there is no discomfort or damage to the tooth itself. Salox Gold differs from standard stainless steel and other copper-alloy barrels in that its metal is slightly softer, enabling it to safely absorb impact forces while protecting tooth enamel. As a result, the mouthpiece is more easily accepted by the horse. Neue Schule's aim is for the bit to be comfortable yet neutral in the horse's mouth. We don't want the horse to fixate internally on the bit, but to be receptive to all our aids. The addition of aluminium, which forms a protective coating insoluble in alumina, solves this problem. It's also self-healing: if the horse bites into the bit, the insoluble surface oxide quickly re-forms to trap the ions once more.
