Our expert's opinion
The straight loose ring bit provides a consistent and symmetrical contact. It helps to make contact and is best suited for horses that have difficulty in tensing with hinged bits. The straight barrel exerts direct pressure on the tongue and bars, while freeing the palate. The fact that it is straight ensures a symmetrical left/right contact of the hand to the mouth and eliminates any risk of pinching the tongue. All these elements will allow the horse to gain confidence in his mouthpiece, to come to rest and to stretch himself, it is an ideal bit for a young horse. The soft resin encourages the horse to stretch. A light contact of the horse on his bit will contribute to improve the locomotion of the horse through the engagement of the hindquarters.
Description
The Velari Flex Loose Ring Snaffle Hard 20 mm offers a firmer feel for horses that benefit from a more defined rein connection. It supports clearer aids and can help reduce leaning without resorting to metal. While firmer than the Soft and Medium versions, the bit maintains a smooth, rounded surface to avoid unnecessary pressure points.
Constructed from a firm, non-toxic synthetic material, the surface remains smooth and safe while offering maximum clarity of aid. The material is free of harmful substances and suitable for long-term use. While firmer than the Soft and Medium options, it still avoids the coldness and unforgiving feel of traditional metal bits, making it a considered choice for riders needing more defined communication.
This bit features a firm, straight bar design that offers stability and clear contact. The mouthpiece maintains its shape under pressure, making it ideal for horses that tend to lean or become heavy in softer bits. Its straight structure evenly distributes pressure across the bars and tongue, providing consistent, well-defined signals without the sharpness of metal.
With loose rings, the mouthpiece is allowed to move freely, promoting light chewing activity and helping the horse stay flexible and attentive in the hand. This increased mobility supports precise rein aids and keeps the connection soft and responsive throughout the ride.
Material
Resin provides a softer contact that encourages relaxation. Resin jaws remain at room temperature. They offer a soft contact but are less tender and thick than a rubber bit. Non-toxic rubber (PAH free)
Caution : This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear and tear due to biting. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
