The rings are D-shaped. They only rotate along one axis, which prevents pinching of the corners of the mouth. The flat side of the D-ring makes this bit more direct than an olive or ring snaffle. The double jointed bit allows for better relaxation of the horse's mouth. Unlike the single jointed bit, which acts on the palate, a sensitive part of the horse's mouth, the double jointed bit acts on the tongue without causing pain.
