Expert opinion
The Trust brand's single jointed sweet iron beval locked bit is a “hybrid” bit. It offers a gentle, relaxing action with its alloy but becomes more direct and precise when contact is made by locking. The locking mechanism eliminates the risk of pinching the tongue and discomfort on the palate. The fineness of the joint and the thickness of the barrel make this bit relatively comfortable. The locking of the barrel encourages the horse to maintain light contact. This is an interesting bit for achieving light contact and encouraging the horse to carry itself and engage its hindquarters.
The beval rings allow the reins to be attached securely to the top or bottom ring, or with rings on the main ring and the bottom ring. It can also be used as a lifting device. It is widely used for young riders as it offers good control and limited leverage on the horse's neck while providing good lateral support.
Material
Sweet iron : Sweet iron alloy oxidizes when in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste which naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Consequently, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to get in touch with its mouthpiece. The oxydation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
