Our expert's opinion
The Kimblehook cheeks provide progressive leverage while maintaining excellent lateral stability, allowing the rider to adjust the level of control through rein placement. The double-jointed Front Lock mouthpiece combines the freedom of a jointed bit with the stability of a straight bar once consistent contact is established, encouraging a quieter and more reliable connection. The Sweet Iron coating promotes salivation and encourages the horse to confidently seek the contact, making it particularly suitable for sensitive or worried horses.
Description
The Fager Martin Kimblehook is designed for horses that do not naturally seek the contact, feel worried in the mouth, or constantly chew on the bit. It is also well suited to strong yet sensitive horses that benefit from a steadier connection without excessive pressure.
Its double-jointed mouthpiece with the Front Lock system moves freely when the reins are relaxed, then gradually locks under rein pressure to provide the stability of a straight bar. This creates a consistent contact while remaining forgiving of unexpected hand movements or changes in the horse's head position.
The Sweet Iron coating develops a naturally sweet taste that encourages salivation and motivates the horse to confidently seek the bit. The surface will gradually oxidise, which is a normal part of the material's performance.
The Kimblehook cheeks allow the rider to increase leverage depending on rein placement. The lower the rein is attached, the more pressure is distributed between the mouth, poll and curb chain or strap, providing additional control while maintaining excellent lateral stability.
For horses that are particularly wide across the premolars, choosing one size larger may provide a better fit due to the position of the upper shanks.
Material
Sweet Iron is a coating applied over a stainless steel bit. As it naturally oxidises when exposed to moisture and air, it develops a brown-grey surface with a slightly sweet taste that stimulates salivation and encourages the horse to accept the bit more willingly. This oxidation is completely normal and does not affect the bit's performance.
