Description
The straight bit provides constant, symmetrical contact. It helps the horse to make contact with the bit, and is best suited to horses that find it difficult to tense up with articulated bits. The straight barrel exerts direct pressure on the tongue and bars, while freeing the palate. The fact that it is straight ensures symmetrical left/right contact from the hand to the mouth and eliminates any risk of pinching the tongue. All these features help the horse to gain confidence in its mouthpiece. Its sweet iron alloy encourages the horse to chew and salivate, providing relaxation.
The pessoa/olives version offers a lowering effect while providing good contact. In fact, the olives (fixed bit) offer more direct contact between the hand and the horse's mouth, encouraging him to seek tension. It protects the commissures from any risk of pinching. The leverage action is less pronounced than on a classic pessoa, as pressure is exerted more on the mouth with the olive.
Material
Sweet iron: Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes on contact with moisture from the mouth and air. Oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates saliva production. This corresponds to the effect of sugar given to the horse at the start of the session, but allows this sweet taste to be diffused throughout the work. As a result, this alloy ensures good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse make contact with the mouthpiece. Oxidation changes the appearance of the bit over the course of the sessions.
