Our expert's opinion
The double-jointed gag bit helps reduce the risk of the nutcracker effect on the tongue and palate thanks to its slightly flattened central lozenge. Trust has designed the joints with a consistent thickness that matches the ends of the mouthpiece, avoiding any uneven edges that could cause discomfort to the horse.
The double-jointed design provides excellent mobility, encouraging relaxation in horses that tend to lean on straight bar bits. It allows greater freedom of movement in the horse's mouth.
This versatile bit is suitable for both young horses in training and experienced horses. Its sweet iron material encourages chewing and salivation, helping the horse relax and accept the contact.
The gag bit helps encourage collection, improving and maintaining the horse's balance. It encourages the horse to lift its withers and engage its hindquarters underneath its body.
This bit features special cheekpieces that pass through two additional rings positioned perpendicular to the main bit rings. This design allows it to be used with two or four reins, or with gag bit converters.
When used with four reins, the reins attached directly to the bit rings provide a traditional lifting action, while those attached to the sliding gag cheekpieces can produce a lowering effect on the horse's head and neck.
The gag bit can help improve the horse's balance by encouraging the horse to bring its nose closer to the rider.
Material
Sweet iron : Sweet iron alloy oxidizes when in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste which naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Consequently, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to get in touch with its mouthpiece. The oxydation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
