Expert opinion
:The Pelham has attachments for two reins, one near the mouthpiece and one at the end of the shank. Some riders, may prefer to use rein connectors. The Pelham shank will exert moderate poll pressure and leverage on the mouthpiece and curb.
The Segundo is a three piece broken bit, with the middle component representing a port angled at 45 degrees, which alleviates tongue pressure while keeping an even pressure on the bars, encouraging the horse to stay light to the contact. Horses find it difficult to lean on this mouthpiece or put their tongue over the bit.
The cheekpiece is available in 2 sizes, standard and a slightly smaller model for a pony. The standard size Pelham has 2 length shanks. The longer shank allows for more hand movement and slows the leveraging of the pressure points.
The Segundo port is scaled according to the width, to ensures accurate fitting over the bars
BARREL THICKNESS
*Unless mentioned in the options, the thickness of the barrel is :
Size (mm) | Barrel thickness (mm) |
< 115 | 12 |
115 - 130 | 14 |
> 130 | 16 |
Material
Sweet iron : Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Therefore, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to make contact with the mouthpiece. The oxidation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
