Expert opinion
The Philip bit from Fager is ideal for horses:
- Having difficulty making contact on the bit
- Sensitive to language pressures
- Having a small mouth
The Philip Bit is a comfortable, high-wearing, rear-sloping flange bit made of mild steel. The Philip bit is bent at a 45° angle on the tongue, which allows the tongue more freedom and thus encourages the horse to make more contact. The clamp is useful to distribute pressure. The Philip bit is delivered with its clamps and hooks.
Material
Sweet iron: Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes on contact with moisture from the mouth and air. Oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates saliva production. This corresponds to the effect of sugar given to the horse at the start of a session, but allows this sweet taste to be diffused throughout the work. As a result, this alloy ensures good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse make contact with the mouthpiece. Oxidation modifies the appearance of the bit as the session progresses.
