Expert opinion
: The Beris butterfly Swales bit is a straight, flexible or rigid bit. The butterfly barrel can act in much the same way as a paddle bit, lying flat on the tongue and flexing slightly as you bite. Soft straight bits promote gentle contact, ideal for sensitive horses. Loose rings offer gentle contact to the mouth. Compared with fixed rings, they provide a slight indirect contact, making it easier to play with the fingers and limiting excessive tension.
The Swalesbit closely resembles the pelham or bridle bit. However, it avoids pressure on the nape of the neck, as the top rings are not fixed to the barrels. The snaffle bit is the only lever bit that does not act on the nape of the neck. This bit can be used with 2 or 4 reins. Either 4 reins (movable rings at the top and small rings at the bottom) or with rings. The 2 movable rings on the bit are used to secure the snaffle uprights as well as the reins or rings, and are placed on either side of the horse's mouth.
This bit runs small, so we recommend you go one size up.
Material
Resin : Beris bits are made of resin, with a specially smooth surface that allows the bit to slide into the horse's mouth without the "gumming" effect that traditional resin bits can cause. This material is so smooth and soft to the touch that it can even be considered for horses that have difficulty salivating. This resin is made from a plastic material for food use. A real asset to obtain chewing and a good acceptance of the bit thanks to its soft touch and its ambient temperature.
