Expert opinion

Fager Martin is a double-jointed Sweet Iron bit featuring a Front Lock system. This means that the bit has a sweet taste to make the horse seek more contact with the bit, and when you have a good contact in the reins, the bit locks like a straight bit. This will help your horse to keep the consistent contact if it struggles to trust the bit.

Martin offers outstanding stability and comfort. When the horse is working, the Front lock is there to assist, whatever the positioning of the head. From a low position (stretching out) or higher (over a jump), the closure continues to work even if the reins pull the bit upwards; making the bit turn downwards – this is where a regular lockup system would fail. It also makes it considerably more forgiving against any unexpected movements of your hands.

Martin is also an ideal bit to alternative regularly with other bits to vary the pressure points ensuring a more consistent, focused communication.

Loose Rings are designed to move independently to the mouthpiece. This allows the horse more freedom to use his tongue, allowing them to place the pressure from the mouthpiece either higher or lower, whichever they prefer. Loose Rings are a good choice for a horse that can be slightly stiff or hard in the mouth

Material

Sweet Iron : Sweet Iron alloy oxidises on contact with moisture in the mouth and air. Oxidation produces a sweet taste that naturally stimulates saliva production. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar given to the horse at the beginning of the session, but allows this sweet taste to be diffused throughout the work. As a result, this alloy ensures good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to make contact with the mouthpiece. Oxidation changes the appearance of the bit over the course of the sessions.
