Expert opinion
Expert's opinion: The Goyo Aga Marcus bit is a double bit in sweet iron. The Goyo-Aga bit has a fairly strong action as it is used with a curb chain and puts pressure on the bars with a leverage effect on the nape of the neck. Its double break protects the horse's palate and surrounds the tongue. Its extremely smooth barrel makes it an interesting bit for sensitive horses, as it favours gentle, light and constant contact. It is mainly used for horses with a lot of natural impulsion and can be used in 3 ways:
- Gentle, with the reins attached to the top notch, it is halfway between the effect of the olive bit and the baucher.
- Severe, with the reins in the bottom notch, where the leverage is greatest.
- Medium, with the reins in the middle notch, where the leverage is less important than if the rein is placed at the bottom. The curb chain, if more or less tight, makes the bit more or less severe.
Material
Sweet Iron: Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes upon contact with moisture in the mouth and air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Therefore, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to make contact with the mouthpiece. The oxidation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
