Our expert's opinion
The small loose bradoon rings provide mobility and a slightly indirect contact while keeping bulk to a minimum when the bit is used alongside a curb bit. The reversible single-jointed mouthpiece can be positioned to provide either more tongue relief or more bar relief, allowing the pressure distribution to be adapted to the horse's sensitivity. Sweet Iron encourages salivation and bit acceptance. This combination is particularly useful for seeking a more consistent and stable contact in sensitive horses without adding unnecessary bulk in the mouth.
Description
The Fager Jesper bradoon bit is designed for sensitive horses that need stability and comfort from a bit that takes up minimal space in the mouth. Its small bradoon rings make it particularly suitable for use with a double bridle.
Its single-jointed mouthpiece can be used in two directions. In one position, its shape provides more tongue relief, particularly for horses with inconsistent contact, a busy mouth or a tendency to put the tongue over the bit. When reversed, it provides more bar relief and may suit horses that become stiff, bite the bit or tend to drop behind the contact.
The mouthpiece has a completely smooth surface, including around the joint. Its shape follows the tongue naturally while helping to reduce constant pressure on the bars and sensitive tissues. The joint is designed to avoid pressure on the palate.
Sweet Iron gradually oxidises when exposed to moisture and encourages salivation, which can support bit acceptance and a more consistent contact.
The small loose bradoon rings provide mobility and a slightly indirect contact. Jesper uses the same mouthpiece as Gustav, but with smaller rings specifically suited to use as a bradoon bit.
Material
Sweet Iron: Sweet Iron oxidises when exposed to moisture in the horse's mouth and to air. This oxidation develops a slightly sweet taste that naturally encourages salivation. It can therefore promote bit acceptance and help the horse establish a more consistent contact with the mouthpiece. Oxidation progressively changes the appearance of the bit with use.
