Expert opinion
The Shires loose ring bit is a double jointed that offers a simple contact. It allows a better relaxation of your horse's mouth by a smoother transmission of your aids. Unlike the single jointed which acts on the palate, the double jointed acts on the tongue without causing pain. It is important to know that the palate of the horse is a sensitive area that should not be neglected. The free rings offer a soft contact to the mouth. They allow a slight indirect contact compared to fixed rings, which makes it easier to play in the fingers and limit excessive tension.
This bit particularly encourages horses that carry their head very high to lower their head and flex their neck more easily. The Drop Cheek with its upper branches has a slightly lowering effect on the neck. Its action remains light, with the aim of obtaining a slight yielding on the horse's neck.
Material
Copper : The copper alloy has a pleasant taste for the horse when it comes into contact with the mouth, stimulating chewing and salivation.
Sweet iron : Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Therefore, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to make contact with the mouthpiece. The oxidation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
