L'avis de l'expert
The Barrel 20 bit is part of the family of locked bits, in which the movement of the joint is limited to approximately 5%. It helps prevent the risk of tongue pinching while protecting the palate. Its curved shape allows pressure to be distributed between the bars and the tongue. This bit helps achieve better contact while ensuring that the horse does not lean too heavily. It also offers independent action of each rein, which can help lift one shoulder more than the other thanks to the possible rotation of one ring independently from the other. The pelham is a fixed leverage bit. Through its action on the horse's poll and chin (mandible), it provides a more or less pronounced lowering effect depending on the length of the shanks and how it is set up (two or four reins, converters, curb chain). It is particularly useful for powerful horses and/or those with a lot of blood to help channel their energy. The curb chain allows the intensity of the bit to be adjusted.
Material
Sweet Iron : Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes upon contact with moisture in the mouth and air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Therefore, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to make contact with the mouthpiece. The oxydation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
