Expert opinion
: The Colin Miles is a great schooling bit with a wide centre piece creating greater tongue pressure and reducing bar pressure. The rings give the horse someting to play with and help keep the horses attention on the bit. This particular joint exerts more pressure than the control plate or Elliptical. Recommended schooling bit, the link is wider than the buster roller increasing tongue pressure and lessening bar pressure, but not to underestimate that this is a strong mouth piece.
The Colin Miles is a great schooling bit with a 55mm centre piece creating greater tongue pressure. The rings give the horse something to play with and help keep the horses attention on the bit. The Petros mouthpieces rotate preventing the horse taking hold of the bit and can be combined with any 3-piece bit. Often good for a horse that leans or tries to take hold of the bit. The Loose Ring allows for immediate release and relief from tongue and bar pressure which will reset the bit in the horses’ mouth.

Material
Sweet Iron : Sweet Iron alloy oxidizes upon contact with moisture in the mouth and air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste that naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Therefore, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to make contact with the mouthpiece. The oxidation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
