Expert's Opinion: The Rugby Pelham is halfway between the pelham and the bridle. It is used with a bridle net. The snaffle bit post and rein attach to the ring connected with a small tie. The bridle bit post is attached to the top of the branch on the ring where the curb chain is located. The lever rein is attached to the ring at the bottom of the branch. It is best used with 4 reins. This bit is particularly adapted to horses that are a little heavy on the hand since it offers a less direct contact than the classic Pelham.

It can also be interesting for horses that work well in a bridle but are bothered by the bulk of the two bits. The double snaffle allows to limit the risk of "nutcracker" on the tongue and the palate thanks to the central olive. It has a relative freedom of movement in the horse's mouth. It is a versatile bit that can be used for horses in training as well as for older horses.

BARREL THICKNESS

*Unless mentioned in the options, the thickness of the barrel is :

Size (mm) Barrel thickness (mm)
< 115 12
115 - 130 14
> 130 16

Please note : This bit is small, we advise you to take 1 size above.

Sweet iron : Sweet iron alloy oxidizes when in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste which naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Consequently, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to get in touch with its mouthpiece. The oxydation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
