Our expert's opinion
The Autopilot Pelham combines leverage cheeks with a slightly curved straight Comfort mouthpiece that distributes pressure evenly while providing more freedom for the tongue. The Autopilot system maintains mobility of the mouthpiece and allows the horse to find a comfortable position in its mouth, making it particularly interesting for horses that are sensitive to pressure or need stability without a fixed mouthpiece. Beris synthetic resin provides soft, smooth contact that encourages acceptance and relaxation. The choice between Soft and Hard also allows the feel to be adapted to the horse: greater flexibility to encourage a sensitive horse to take up the contact, or a firmer feel for greater precision with horses that tend to lean on the bit.
Description
The Beris Autopilot Comfort mouth Pelham bit is designed for sensitive horses looking for stable and consistent contact, particularly those that struggle to take up the contact with jointed bits. It can also suit horses that are sensitive to pressure on the tongue or poll.
The slightly curved straight Comfort mouthpiece provides more room for the tongue and distributes pressure evenly over the tongue and lower jaw. Its shape limits lateral pinching and promotes symmetrical contact. It is available in two flexibilities: Soft for sensitive horses that need to settle lightly into the contact, and Hard for horses that tend to lean more on the bit.
The Beris synthetic resin mouthpiece provides soft contact with a particularly smooth surface. Its mouth-friendly temperature and smooth feel encourage chewing and acceptance of the bit.
The Autopilot system allows the mouthpiece to remain mobile so the horse can naturally find the position that suits its individual mouth. Combined with the Pelham cheeks, it provides adjustable leverage depending on the rein configuration and curb chain adjustment, distributing the action between the mouth and poll.
The thickness of the Comfort mouthpiece spreads pressure over a relatively broad surface, helping to create more consistent contact while limiting highly concentrated pressure points.
Material
Synthetic resin: Beris bits are made from synthetic resin with a particularly smooth surface that allows the mouthpiece to glide comfortably in the horse's mouth without the rubber-like effect sometimes found with traditional synthetic materials. Its soft feel and ambient temperature can encourage chewing, salivation and acceptance of the bit. Beris resin is made from food-grade plastic.
Handcrafted.
Warning: This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear caused by biting. It is strongly advised not to use a bit that is excessively damaged, as it could injure the horse's bars, tongue or palate.
