In addition, its light and straight design promotes more precise and direct communication with the reins. The Verdun bit has D-shaped rings and a slight lever action. They only rotate along one axis, which prevents the corners of the mouth from being pinched. The flat side of the D-ring makes this bit more directional than an olive or ring snaffle, but less so than a needle bit. The passes fix the bit and allow more direct action.
