Expert opinion
: The NILS Baby Fulmer barrel bit is a locked snaffle bit with a central cylinder. The central cylinder offers increased stability of the bit in the horses mouth. It allows for a more symmetrical "left/right" contact which helps the horse to come into tension. The locking action eliminates the risk of tongue pinching and makes the rider's demands more efficient and direct. This model is ideal for horses that are easily injured. The fulmer needles offer lateral guidance while allowing discontinuous contact in the reins with the free ring. The free rings offer a soft contact without leverage and allow easy play in the fingers to relax the horse's forehand. It offers two different uses:
- The upward tongue passage frees up space for the tongue and divides the pressure between the tongue, bars and commissures.
- The downward tongue passage limits the pressure on the bars by exerting a more direct action on the tongue. Nevertheless, thanks to the central barrel the contact remains relatively comfortable for the tongue.
Material
Sweet iron : Sweet iron alloy oxidizes when in contact with the humidity of the mouth and the air. The oxidation brings a sweet taste which naturally stimulates the production of saliva. This corresponds to the effect of a sugar that is given to the horse at the beginning of the session but allows to diffuse this sweet taste throughout the work. Consequently, this alloy allows a good acceptance of the bit and helps the horse to get in touch with its mouthpiece. The oxydation modifies the aspect of the bit during the sessions.
