The Barrel joint limits the nut cracker action, which spreads the pressure over a larger area of the tongue and lessens the pressure on the bars. The barrel allows for independent action on each rein. A ring cheek piece introduces poll pressure as well as creating leverage on the mouthpiece, the 2½ Ring version is the softest out of the 3 or 4 ring alternatives as the ½ ring softens the leverage on the mouthpiece and poll. The central barrel allows for a separation of reins aids, enabling a fine tuning of communication.The limited movement of the barrel allows the port to adjust to fit a wide range of mouth configurations. The adjustable port allows the horse to maneuver pressures between its tongue & bars. The barrel mouthpiece will twist if the horse takes too much pressure. This will help the horse stay relaxed on the bit and the rider to keep a good contact.
