Expert opinion: The Goyo Aga straight tongue bit from Abbey has many advantages thanks to its alloy and barrel shape. It provides comfort for horses that are sensitive in the mouth and have difficulty stretching. The anatomy of the bit offers space for the tongue and its tongue passage allows an optimal distribution of pressure on the bars, the tongue and the commissures. The fact that it is straight ensures a symmetrical left/right contact of the hand to the mouth and eliminates any risk of pinching the tongue. All these elements will allow the horse to gain confidence in his mouthpiece, to come to rest and to stretch.
The Goyo-Aga bit, mainly used in Iberian riding, has a rather strong action because it is used with a curb chain and therefore puts pressure on the bars with a leverage effect. It is mainly used on horses with a lot of natural impulsion. The Goyo Aga bit can be used in 3 ways:
- Soft, with the reins attached to the top notch, it is halfway between the effect of the olive and Baucher bit
- Severe, with the reins in the bottom notch, where the leverage is more important
- Medium, with the reins in the middle notch, where the leverage is less important than with the rein down.
The curb chain can vary the action depending on its setting.
Ebonite : Ebonite is a hard material obtained from the vulcanisation of rubber, a process in which rubber is heated to a high temperature to make it harder and smoother. Soft to the touch and with a more stable temperature, this material is more comfortable than metal. This type of rubber requires the horse to salivate naturally with a bit in its mouth so that it does not overheat. Unlike vulcanite, ebonite is a slightly rougher alloy.
Caution : This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear and tear due to biting. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
