Expert opinion : The butterfly bit is particularly suitable for show jumping. Thanks to the 2in1 barrel, the butterfly snaffle has two additional levels of intensity in the horse's mouth by simply turning the bit by 180 degrees: The 2in1 bits are equipped with a barrel with two levels of intensity of action. The alternating action of this bit prevents the horse's mouth from becoming desensitised. The double break allows an even distribution of the pressure from the rein into the horse's mouth. It increases the rider's control over the horse, especially in tight curves. The many possible combinations depending on the choice of rein placement and side, soft or strong produce very different effects. Below are the combinations of reins and rings described:
- Reins on the central ring: the action of the bit is similar to that of a Baucher snaffle. The main action is on the horse's mouth, so the pressure on the neck is very light.
- Reins on the bottom ring: the leverage is stronger. Thus the bit is similar to a three-ring snaffle, but the pressure is distributed equally over the horse's mouth and neck.
- A medium impact is achieved by the use of alliances which are attached to the middle and bottom rings.
Stainless steel : Stainless steel is a commonly used alloy which has the particularity of not oxidising. Due to their nature, stainless steel jaws are very strong and do not get damaged over time.
Sweet Copper : The central part is made of Sweet Copper. It is made of 90% solid copper, 7% iron and 3% aluminium. It gives off a pleasant flavour for the horse when it comes into contact with its mouth, encouraging it to chew and salivate, thus relaxing its jaw.
