Expert opinion
The Shires drop cheek bit is a double jointed that offers a simple contact. It allows a better relaxation of your horse's mouth by a smoother transmission of your aids. Unlike the single jointed which acts on the palate, the double jointedacts on the tongue without causing pain. It is important to know that the palate of the horse is a sensitive area that should not be neglected. The free rings offer a soft contact to the mouth. They allow a slight indirect contact compared to fixed rings, which makes it easier to play in the fingers and limit excessive tension.
This bit especially encourages horses with a high head to lower their head and bend their neck more easily. The drop cheek with its upper legs has a slightly lowering effect on the neck. Its action remains light, with the aim of obtaining a slight yielding on the horse's neck.
Material
Copper : The copper alloy has a pleasant taste for the horse when it comes into contact with the mouth, stimulating chewing and salivation.
