Expert opinion : The Zilco straight half needle bit provides comfort in the horse's mouth thanks to its leather covering. Unlike the double bit which acts on the tongue, the single bit acts on the palate. It is important to know that the palate of the horse is a sensitive area that should not be neglected. It can be recommended for horses with a hollow palate or not very sensitive palate. Sometimes called a "half cheek snaffle", this design is popular in harness racing. The spoons hang below the mouthpiece to prevent the bit from being pulled through the horse's mouth and their position means they are less likely to get caught in the mouth or reins.
Leather : Leather is a natural material very pleasant for the horse which stimulates chewing and salivation. It avoids the cold contact of some metal bits. The production of saliva softens the leather and makes it more pleasant for the horse.
Caution : This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear and tear due to biting. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
