The pelham bit with 70 mm long bars and a standard 16 mm thick cannon made of German Silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel) a relaxing and solid mouthpiece. The Pelham bit is a great compromise between the bridle and the double bridle. It offers a lever action more or less strong depending on the cheeks length, the curb chain adjustment and how it is assembled. This bit makes the horse give in in the neck and exercises pressure on the mandibles. Every Pelham bit can be used directly with two reins, with bit connectors or with four reins. Therefore, the curb chain action can be softened by using other curb chain types as leather or nylon ones. This pelham is covered with leather which is great combination. It helps the horse have a steady and comfortable contact.
Material: Virtually every horse like the feeling of leather in its mouth and reacts with increased chewing activity and more salivation. The more salivation, the better slides the bit in the mouth what means an increased well being of your horse. The anatomical shape of the mouthpiece adjusts when wet even more perfect to the anatomy of the horse's mouth. Extremely well suited is our leather mouthpiece for young and highly sensitive horses, disliking all other materials. This mouthpiece are tanned vegetable and stitched by hand.
Tips : Prior to the first use please soak the mouthpiece thoroughly in cooking oil. Please repeat since the leather seems dry to you. Prior to every use please soak briefly in cold water and rinse after use because saliva can erode the leather quickly.
Caution : This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear and tear due to biting. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
