Leather cover are best For:
- Sensitive-mouthed horses
- Young/green horses in training
- Horses avoiding or resisting contact
- Horses needing to build trust in the bit
- Riders looking for a softer feel and better connection
How does it work? Step-by-step
1. Measure where to cut the length of the leather cover with your bit placed in the center. Cut the right length.
2. Measure where to cut the width by wrapping the leather cover around the bit. Cut the right width.
3. Attach needles to both sides of the thread.
4. Time to start sewing. Start sewing the thread 2 times in a loop. Always make sure that the stitching points to the outside of the mouth and not against the mouthcorners.
5. Pull tight. Then continue sewing by crossing the thread over each other, through the holes. Like a shoelace. Make sure to tighten.
6. Pull tight through the whole bit. At the end, tie a loop with each end of the thread and secure it with a knot. Cut off the access thread.
7. Carefully burn the ends of the thread with a lighter.
Now you have the perfect, homemade leather bit!
About the material
Fagers leather is vegetable tanned; no harmful chemicals or artificial colors are used.
If the leather gets dry, we recommend soaking it in food-grade paraffin oil.
Make sure that the stitching points to the outside of the mouth and not against the mouthcorners.
Good to know:
* Sold in 2 pairs.
* A thread for sewing is included.
* The needle needs to be bought separately, as you can use the same needle multiple times.
* The sustainability of the leather depends on how much your horse chews on the bit.
NOTE! The leather material is not suitable for horses that chew a lot on the bit. The bit is therefore not covered by warranty or right of complaint if the damage has occurred due to the horse biting the bit.
