It is important to know that the palate of the horse is a sensitive area that should not be neglected. The Abbey flat barrel bit is slightly rounded on the edges of the barrel, which gives it a stronger action. It can be recommended for horses that are relatively easy to handle but not very sensitive in the mouth or with a hollow palate. The loose rings offer a soft contact to the mouth. They allow for a slight indirect contact compared to fixed rings, making it easier to play in the fingers and limiting excessive tension.
