Expert opinion : The Abbey Straight Pelham bit has many advantages thanks to its alloy and barrel shape. It provides comfort for horses that are sensitive in the mouth and have difficulty stretching. The fact that it is straight ensures a symmetrical left/right contact of the hand to the mouth and eliminates any risk of pinching on the tongue. All these elements will allow the horse to gain confidence in his mouthpiece, to come to rest and to stretch. This bit has the particularity of resembling the bridle bit, but on the contrary it still has a big ring at the level of the barrel, which allows to fix a second pair of reins or a pair of rings. Its leverage can vary depending on the size of its branches, the location of the reins and the setting of the curb chain. The curb chain allows you to vary the intensity of the bit. It is recommended to use curb chain guards for sensitive horses. The Pelham allows you to close the angle between the head and neck, it is ideal for strong horses that can open up on the hand.

Vulcanite : Vulcanite is a hard material obtained from the vulcanisation of rubber, a process in which rubber is heated to a high temperature to make it harder and smoother. Soft to the touch and with a more stable temperature, this material is more comfortable than metal. This type of rubber requires the horse to salivate naturally with a bit in its mouth so that it does not overheat. Unlike ebonite, vulcanite is a smooth alloy.

Caution : This material is vulnerable and is not guaranteed by the manufacturer against wear and tear due to biting. We strongly advise against using a bit that is too damaged, as this could injure the horse's bars, tongue and palate.
