Stainless steel, laiton & Sweet iron: Bombers only uses the very best Stainless Steel. Brass is used in a some products. Most our mouthpieces are made from blue sweet iron, because it:

  • Oxidises easily
  • Encourages salivation
  • Helps bit acceptance
  • Is warm and sweet

Our bits should be washed after use and checked for wear. If the bit has been out of use for some time, a kitchen scourer maybe necessary to remove built up oxidation.

The drop cheek has an eggbutt like ring at the mouthpiece for the rein, with an upper cheek that has a ring at its end, to which the cheek piece of the bridle is attached.

The barrel joint limits the nut cracker action, which spreads the pressure over a larger area of the tongue and lessens the pressure on the bars. The barrel allows for independent action on each rein.

The Drop Cheek has an Eggbutt like ring at the mouthpiece for the rein, with an upper cheek that has a ring at its end, to which the cheekpiece of the bridle is attached.

The mouthpiece does not slide on its ring resulting in only slight poll pressure. The cheekpieces lies flat against the horse's face, and the mouthpiece is quite fixed in the mouth and concentrates pressure on the bars.

The Ported Barrel was created to relieve pressure on the tongue via the the medium port, which creates space for the tongue. The Barrel joint relieves pressure on the bars by spreading it over a larger area and limiting the nut cracker action of a conventional snaffle.

In addition, all our bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:

  • oxidises easily
  • encourages salivation
  • helps bit acceptance

Please note the blue will fade with use.

Clean with water after each use and occasionally with a special cleaning product for bits.
